What we do

The Foundation of Goodness was established in 1999 and has worked extensively to develop a one of a kind holistic rural community development model to bridge the urban-rural divide and provide equal opportunities to rural marginalized villagers to excel in life by way of educational, vocational, sports and values training and development as well as short-term welfare initiatives.

In 2024 alone, the Foundation of Goodness delivered a wide range of programmes to over 67,000 beneficiaries from 725 villages across Sri Lanka, free of charge.
Our approach

The Foundation of Goodness addresses the disconnect between urban progress and rural hardships in Sri Lanka caused mainly by poverty, which has been an entrenched issue that has proven difficult to combat, with income inequality remaining unchanged for 4 decades (Institute of Policy Studies of Sri Lanka) creating a gap between the urban and rural sectors.

The need

Outside the urban district of Colombo where the Sri Lankan capital is located, communities at large remain disenfranchised from technology and fast paced global development, and people struggle to obtain the most basic of necessities including three square nutritious meals a day.

In 2016 the Sri Lankan Department of Census and Statistics identified that 82.2% of the poor population in Sri Lanka was from the rural sector, which is the reason that the Foundation of Goodness has strived to decrease those numbers, knowing the innate talent and skills that lie hidden among the bright children and youth.

How we'll spend your kind donations

The fundraising will be spent on sustaining the programs delivered by the Foundation of Goodness and includes mid to long-term development initiatives such as the educational, vocational and sports training provided by our empowerment centres as well as our special projects and welfare programmes which target more immediate and short term relief such as medical needs, access to pipe borne water and electricity and provision of school supplies.

We are currently also promoting a special fundraising effort, where USD 50 helps us support one student to complete a course of study at the Foundation of Goodness, with over 28,000 students having attended our programmes in 2024.
